About Mt Aspiring Station

Mt Aspiring Station is owned by Randall and Allison with their sons Johnny, and Josh Aspinall.

Established in 1920, Mt Aspiring has been in the Aspinall family now for 4 generations. Originally around 29000 Ha, in 1957 Jerry and Phyllis Aspinall voluntarily surrendered 20,235ha to the Crown to help form Mt Aspiring National Park in 1963. This left just under 10000 ha of lease hold. The station recently went through land tenure review and is now comprised of 2309ha freehold (and a 175ha grazing lease), nested in the West and East branches of the headwaters of the Matukituki River.

The station has around 80,000-100,000 people pass through it a year who venture into the Mt Aspiring National Park. This includes students staying at both the Old Station Homestead in the East Branch and Otago Boys High School Lodge in the West. This level of public interaction with the Stations activities adds a further set of unique challenges for this farming enterprise to manage day by day.
