About Motatapu-Soho Station
Motatapu and Soho Station is owned by Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange and managed by Russell Hamilton. The stations are part of The Mahu Whenua covenants, which protect 53,000ha of contiguous landscape over most of Motatapu, Mount Soho, Glencoe, and Coronet Peak stations. The Motatapu and Soho stations cover a large part of the country between Lake Wanaka and Arrowtown. The Mahu Whenua covenants protect iconic high-country landscapes, the habitat of unique native plants and animals, public access, and important historic, cultural and recreation values.
The operation farm (around 1342 Ha) remains within the river valley, this area has been divided up into paddocks and blocks. It can be summarised as having steep faces and river terraces. The farmed area contained boarders the length of the Motatapu River Catchment. Motatapu has operated as a high-country farm since the 1800’s when it was part of Glencoe Station.
